Your Legal Identity
in the Digital World

A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) is a secure cryptographic key issued by a Government-licensed Certifying Authority (CA). It serves as your legal digital identity — allowing you to sign electronic documents, file tax returns, submit MCA forms, participate in tenders and authenticate yourself on government portals.

Legally Binding under IT Act 2000

Digital signatures are legally admissible in Indian courts under Section 5 of the IT Act, 2000.

PKI-Based Encryption Technology

Uses Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to create tamper-proof signatures that cannot be forged.

Aadhaar eKYC / PAN-Based Verification

Fully paperless process — verified via Aadhaar OTP/biometric and PAN, no physical documents needed.

Stored on FIPS-Certified USB Token

Your DSC is securely stored on an encrypted hardware token — completely portable and safe.

What is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)?

A DSC is a secure cryptographic key issued by a Government-licensed Certifying Authority (CA) under the IT Act 2000. It digitally authenticates your identity on government and private portals — making electronic documents as legally valid as physically signed ones.

Is Class 2 DSC still valid?

No. As per CCA (Controller of Certifying Authorities) guidelines effective January 1, 2021, Class 2 DSCs have been discontinued. Only Class 3 DSCs are now issued — which provide a higher level of security and are accepted on all portals where Class 2 was previously used.

How long does it take to get a DSC?

With ZFiling's streamlined process, most DSCs are issued within 24–48 hours of successful Aadhaar eKYC and payment. In urgent cases, same-day issuance is possible. Physical token dispatch, if required, adds 2–3 business days for courier.

Can I use one DSC on multiple portals?

Yes. A single Class 3 DSC can be used across multiple portals — Income Tax, MCA21, GST, GeM, EPFO, and more. However, DGFT DSC is a special-purpose certificate formatted specifically for the DGFT portal and cannot be used on other portals.

What happens when my DSC expires?

Once expired, your DSC cannot be used for signing until renewed. We recommend renewing 30 days before expiry. In most cases, the same USB token can be re-used for renewal — no new hardware needed. Contact ZFiling for a quick renewal with minimal documentation.

Do I need a DSC for ITR filing?

DSC is mandatory for companies filing ITR-6, for tax audit cases, and for LLPs. For individuals (salaried / non-audit), DSC is optional — you can also use Aadhaar OTP or EVC. However, having a DSC provides greater security and is recommended for HNIs and professionals.

What is the difference between Sign and Sign+Encrypt DSC?

A Signing DSC only authenticates your identity and locks documents from tampering. A Sign+Encrypt (Combo) DSC has two certificates — one for signing and one for encrypting data. The combo is mandatory for most e-tendering portals where bid confidentiality is required.
